Honeybees are for sale yearly to repopulate hives that may have died during the winter months. These are what are called Nucs in the bee trade and that stands for nucleus. The nucs we sell will be made up after the orange blossom blooms and in our area that is generally the 2nd week in May. We will continue to make nucs until the last week in August.
Nucs are sold by the frame and the standard nuc we sell is the 3 frame nuc. Buy it now! They consist of 3 full depth frames and include some brood, bees and a queen. When you go to our store site on the link in blue just click on how many of these you want to buy and complete the form for credit card purchase. We will put your order on our field sheet and make the nucs up for you as they are available. You will have to either come to our yard in Fresno California to pick them up or make other arrangements for transport.
We use what ever queens are available at the time we are making up the nucs and prefer the Italian Queens over all others. They build up quickly and winter over in larger clusters than most other races of honeybees we have tried.
We specialize in small orders so no order is too small. Larger orders of 50 or more require more logistical information and so we require the buyer to call first prior to making such an order. We can make up to 1000 of these nucs each year and the price varies from year to year.
We think nucs are the best option for starting colonies or repopulating dead outs since they contain brood, bees, honey, pollen and a new vigorous queen.
Once you have made your nuc purchase from the website shopping cart we will contact you to give you the approximate date that you can pick up your bees. We are very flexible on dates and can arrange for you to pick them up from us on a week end if you wish.
I wrote a book about beekeeping and published it in 1995. In it I spoke about the then menacing thought of dealing with Africanized Honeybees from the perspective of a homeowner. It is short by any standards at just 44 pages and contains antidotes of my adventures in beekeeping. Buy book now!
